Add a Watermark to Your Document

Description

Watermarks are pictures or text that appear behind text in a document.  Watermarks can be used to identify the document's status, for example marking a document as a draft.  You can use graphics, such as your company logo, as watermarks.

Create a Picture Watermark

  • Menu Path

    • Click on the Format menu

    • Select the Background command

    • Click the Printed Watermark sub-command

  • Printed Watermark Dialog Box

    • Click the Picture Watermark option

    • Click the Select Picture button

      • Select the picture you want and then click the Insert button

    • Set the picture Scale percentage or leave at Auto

    • Turn on or off the Washout option

      • Washout adjusts the brightness and contrast on the image to make it less visible behind the document's text

    • Click the OK button

Create a Text Watermark

  • Menu Path

    • Click on the Format menu

    • Select the Background command

    • Click the Printed Watermark sub-command

  • Printed Watermark Dialog Box

    • Click the Text Watermark option

    • Click the down arrow to select the Text to show as the watermark

      • or, type your own text in the box

    • Select the Font to use for the watermark

    • Select the font Size for the watermark

      • or, leave at Auto and let Microsoft Word automatically size the watermark

    • From the list, select the watermark Color

      • or, leave as Gray 25%

    • Turn on or off Semitransparent

    • Choose a layout of either Diagonal or Horizontal

    • Click the OK button

View the Watermark on Your Screen

  • Menu Path

    • Click on the View menu

    • Select the Print Layout command

  • or, click the Print Preview button on the Standard toolbar
