Microsoft Word
Printing:  Shrink to Fit by One Page

Description

In Microsoft Word you can easily create a document that must adhere to a certain page count.  For example, you may be creating a newsletter that must be no longer than two pages.  However, when you finish typing your document you find that the text runs a few lines longer than your page-count limit.

As shown below, you can use Microsoft Word's Shrink to Fit feature to reduce your document length by one page.

In Microsoft Word

  • Open the document you'd like to print

  • Click the File menu

  • Select the Print Preview command

Print Preview Window

  • Use the Print Preview toolbar to view your document, using either the

    • One Page button

    • or, the Multiple Pages button

  • To reduce your document by one page, on the Print Preview toolbar

    • Click the Shrink to Fit button

      • Microsoft Word will automatically adjust your document fonts proportionally to reduce the document length by one page

    • If you are unhappy with the Shrink to Fit results, depress the <Ctrl> and the <Z> keys to undo the Shrink to Fit action.
