Microsoft Word 2000 & 2002 (XP)
Add Horizontal Lines

Description

It is easy to add a variety of horizontal lines to your Microsoft Word documents.  For example, you may wish to use a thick solid black line to separate the contact information in a fax cover sheet from the message area.  Follow the steps listed below to create a variety of horizontal lines.

In Microsoft Word

  • At the beginning of a new paragraph, type three of the characters listed in the table below followed by the <Enter> key.

    • The three characters must be typed at the beginning of a line with no spaces between the characters.

Having Problems Making this Work?  Try This:

  • Click the Tools menu and the AutoCorrect command

  • Select the AutoFormat As You Type tab

  • Under the Apply as you type heading, click to place a check mark next to the Borders option
