Convert a Word Outline to a PowerPoint Presentation

Description

If you have a Microsoft Word document that was created in outline format, then you can easily convert that document into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.  To set up the slides in a presentation, PowerPoint used the heading styles in your Word document.

Use the following steps to convert a Word document, in outline format, to a PowerPoint presentation.

In Microsoft Word

  • Open the Microsoft Word document

  • Switch to the Outline view

    • Click on the View menu and the Outline command

  • Review the Styles used for the text in your document

    • Place the insertion point on any line of text in your Word document

    • Look at the Style button located on the Formatting toolbar

  • PowerPoint will convert the Word text as follows:

    • Heading 1 text will become the titles of new slides in PowerPoint

    • Heading 2 text will become major bullets in PowerPoint slides

    • Heading 3 text will become sub-bullets in PowerPoint slides

    • Headings 4 through 9 will become further levels of sub-bullets

    • Body Text and Normal text will not be converted

  • Click the File menu

  • Select the Send To command

  • Click the Microsoft PowerPoint sub-command

    • PowerPoint will open in the Outline view with the Word document converted to slides

To Insert Slides from Word into an Existing PowerPoint Presentation

  • Open the PowerPoint file

  • Display the slide you want to insert the new slides after

  • Click on the Insert menu

  • Click on the Slides from Outline command

  • Select the Word document you want to insert
