Microsoft Office 2000 & 2002 (XP)
Personalized Menus and Toolbars

Description

Microsoft Office 2000 and Office 2002 (XP) come with personalized menus and toolbars.  The menu bar shows only basic and frequently used commands.  The Standard and the Formatting toolbars share one row on the window and they also display only basic or frequently used buttons.

Described below are tips and tricks for displaying menu commands and toolbar buttons.  Also included are steps to make the menus and toolbars look like they did in Microsoft Office 97.

Microsoft Office Menus

  • Single click a menu name to display the commands you use most often

  • To Display the Full Menu

    • Double click the menu name

    • Or, click the arrows on the bottom of the menu

    • Or, pause before selecting a command; the full menu will display after a few seconds

Microsoft Office Toolbars

  • Share one row on the window

  • To Display a Button Not Visible

    • Click the More Buttons double arrow at the right end of the toolbar

    • When you select a button from the toolbar palette, that button will be added to the personalized toolbar

Turn Off Personalized Menus and Toolbars

From Any Microsoft Office Program

  • Click on the Tools menu and then the Customize command

  • Click to select the Options tab

  • Display Toolbars on Two Lines

    • Click to clear the Standard and Formatting toolbars share one row option

    • NOTE:  this will change the setting only for the Microsoft Office window currently displayed

  • Turn Off Personalized Menus

    • Click to clear the Menus show recently used commands first option

    • NOTE:  this will change the setting on all of your Microsoft Office programs

  • Click the Close button when finished
