Change the Next Active Cell Move Direction

Description

In Microsoft Excel, when you depress the <Enter> key on your keyboard the active cell moves down to the next row.

You can change the direction to which the active cell moves by following the steps below:

In a Microsoft Excel Worksheet

  • Menu Path

    • Click on the Tools menu

    • Select the Options command

  • Click on the Edit tab

  • Move Selection after Enter

    • Turn off this option if you want the active cell to not move after typing an entry into a cell

    • Leave this option turned on if you do want to active cell to move when you are finished typing in a cell 

  • Direction

    • Click the down arrow next to Direction and select a move direction from the list

      • Choose either Up, Down, Left or Right

  • Click the OK button to close the dialog box
