Create a Line Break within a Cell

Description

You can easily create a line break for cells with multiple lines of text in your Microsoft Excel worksheet.  Follow the steps shown below: 

Type Text in Cell

  • Click in the cell where you want to type multiple lines of text

  • Type the first line of information

  • Depress the <Alt> plus the <Enter> keys

  • Type the second line of information

    • If appropriate, continue to depress the <Alt> + <Enter> keys and type the remaining lines of text

  • When finished typing, depress the <Enter> key

Adjust Column Width & Row Height (If Needed)

  • Position the mouse pointer on the gray boundary line on the right side of the column

    • The mouse pointer will change to a double arrow vertical line   

    • Hold down the left mouse button and drag to the right or left until the column is the correct width

  • Position the mouse pointer on the gray boundary line on the bottom of the row

    • The mouse pointer will change to a double arrow horizontal line 

    • Hold down the left mouse button and drag up or down until the row is the correct height
