Hide Cell Values by Using Formatting

Description

Sometimes you may want to hide the values in individual Microsoft Excel worksheet cells.  The cell values you hide may contain either numbers, formulas, text or dates.  You can hide the values by assigning a null number format to the cells.

In a Microsoft Excel Worksheet

  • Select the cells with values that you want to hide

    • Use the <Shift> key + the left mouse button to select cells that are next to each other

    • Use the <Ctrl> key + the left mouse button to select cells that are not next to each other

  • Menu Path

    • Click on the Format menu

    • Select the Cells command

  • Click on the Number tab

  • In the Category list, click to select Custom

  • In the Type box, type three semicolons ;;;

  • Click the OK button

    • The value will not display within the cell

    • The value does display in the formula bar
